Welcome to the web site of the Experimental Bioinformatics chair at the Technical University of Munich headed by Prof. Dr. Jan Baumbach

We are a research laboratory that investigates the molecular mechanisms driving complex diseases using artificial intelligence methodology and combinatorial optimization.

We develop computational methods for Network and Systems Medicine, in particular for de novo endophenotyping, mechanotyping and redefinition of diseases by classifying their mechanistic causes rather than relying on symptoms. Here, we emerge novel ways for drug repurposing and synergistic pharmacology.

We also develop privacy-preserving artificial intelligence tools to unleash the power of big data in precision medicine, where sensitive data may not be shared cross-institutionally for model learning. We thus develop privacy-by-design methods for federated AI model learning that respect differential privacy.
